CHILDREN WITH FASD – DIAGNOSTIC PROBLEMS AND SELECTED WORK STRATEGIES AND METHODS

Physical, cognitive and behavioural dysfunctions observed among people exposed to alcohol during prenatal period are not dichotomic, just the opposite, there is a wide variety of abnormalities and disorders as a result of being exposed to teratogenic effects of alcohol.
The FASD term (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) includes a wide range of physical dysfunctions and developmental disorders as far as cognition, learning and behaviour are concerned. Teratogenic effects of alcohol, posing a threat to healthy foetus development, have been elaborated on in the hereby article. The significance of diagnostics and some difficulties which may be encountered in the scope of diagnostics, together with the specificity of functioning of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and their development support system have been presented and discussed.
