MOTIVES AND BARRIERS TO THE PARTICIPATION OF OLDER PEOPLE IN RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY

Human aging is an unavoidable and irreversible process which affects all of us. All kinds of  efforts are taken to extend the psychophysical health and duration of age.The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of older people’s participation in their free time, including participation in physical recreation. There were also attends to identify their motives and barriers while choosing active forms of recreation. The method applied in research was a diagnostic poll method and the original questionnaire. The results showed that older people prefer active forms of leisure. They usually choose cycling, Nordic Walking and swimming. The reason for encouraging physical activity is primarily a health care. Respondents recognize the lack of senior clubs, where they could enjoy their free time. The proposition of proper usage of a relatively large budget for this social group free time organization is to create simple forms of physical activity, relatively close to home, in which people might spend their time with their friends or family members.
