ESTABLISHING HIERARCHY IN THE SYSTEM OF PRO-ECOLOGICAL VALUES IN EDUCATION IN REFORMED SCHOOL (BASED ON THE EXAMPLE OF SCHOOLS FROM BIAŁA PODLASKA ADMINISTRATION UNIT)

The theme of the article is connected with the issue of teach need for action aimed at overcoming the current environmental crisis. The essential condition needed to improve the present ecological situation of the world is the change in thinking and prioritizing, which will lead to changes in attitude towards the natural environment. It has currently been a grave challenge of contemporary education in Poland and around the world. Polish school has taken up this challenge by introducing (as part of 1998 Education Reform Bill) ecological education in the form of interdisciplinary pro-ecological path. One of the most crucial of values in school curriculum, including pro-ecological ones. Any educational endeavours, however, are bound to fail without proper prioritizing. Therefore, the author of this article has focused on diagnosing ecological thinking patterns of students and determining to what extent parents and teachers influence their pro-ecological system of values – all based on the author’s own research carried out in Biała Podlaska administration unit. Such a diagnosis may, in fact, provide us with vital findings concerning the effectiveness of educational procedures in the subject matter.
