SPENDING FREE TIME IN FORESTED AREAS IN THE OPINION OF ACADEMIC YOUTH

Selvatourism – tourism done in forested areas – is a complex and multi-plane phenomenon, which is related to varied human life and landscape. In 2013 at Pope John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska, Poland, a study was conducted on a group of 400 students concerning their free time pursued in forested areas. The study was done with the diagnostic survey method using the questionnaire form. The aim of the paper is to assess the benefits of spending free time in forested areas by the academic youth.
From the study we can conclude that academic youth display the need to spend their free time also in forested areas, bearing in mind the values and benefits of this form of recreation. The study has pointed at the diversity between free time and such elements as sex, place of residence, the role of forest in the respondents’ lives and the amount of time spent on recreation in forest.
